about
I design things. Then I make them make sense.
I'm Mohamed Bakuly. I live in Nairobi and I design brands, products, and the bits people actually see.
The two I'm in the middle of are FotoAlly and PyCon Africa. One is a product I'm helping shape from the start. The other is a conference that still has to look like a good time.
A background in Information Technology gives the work a technical floor. Studying Psychology at the University of Nairobi asks a different question: what is the person actually doing, fearing, deciding?
The result is work designed to communicate, function and connect.

Communities
AWS User Groups Pwani and PyCon Africa are not side projects. They are design problems with rooms, tickets, feeds and people who have to decide to show up. The brand is doing its job when the community can recognise itself.
Designing with AI, not around it
AI belongs in the workflow — exploration, ideation, production speed — not in place of the designer. Midjourney, Adobe Firefly, DALL·E and Ideogram are leverage. The work still has to be designed.
